Senator Rob Wagner (D-District 19) was appointed to the Oregon Senate in 2018, elected to a full term later that year and reelected in 2022. He grew up in his Senate District and graduated from Lake Oswego High School. A sense of dedication to public service was instilled in him at a young age by his parents. 
 
Senator Wagner received his bachelor's degree from Portland State University and earned a master's degree in public policy from The George Washington University. His introduction to the Oregon Legislature came early, serving as a legislative aide in the Oregon House of Representatives in the late 1990s. His passion for education led him to a position with American Federation of Teachers - Oregon, where he spent a decade advocating for Oregon's teachers, faculty, health care workers and academic support professionals. He served as Associate Vice President at Portland Community College, where his duties included overseeing community outreach and working to secure student scholarship funding.

Senator Wagner and his wife, Laurie, share four wonderful children. An avid and lifelong hiker, one of Senator Wagner's favorite views is from the summit of South Sister in the Central Cascades. He also enjoys playing piano, singing and playing guitar.
