Present Duties
The board ensures all of Oregon’s death care facilities are properly licensed and they regulate the practice of individuals and facilities engaged in the care, preparation, processing, transportation and final disposition of human remains. Death care services are provided by approximately 2,000 licensed practitioners and facilities throughout the state. The board includes 11 members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Senate. Seven full-time employees provide support and assistance to the board.
The board also provides administration for the Indigent Disposition Program which provides funeral establishments with reimbursement for costs incurred while providing services for the disposition of indigent decedents.
