Present Duties
The agency is responsible for titling and registering motorboats, registering outfitter/guides, co-managing aquatic invasive species inspection stations throughout the state, licensing charter boats and issuing Waterway Access Permits for non-motorized boats 10 feet long and longer.
The five-member volunteer board adopts boating regulations to promote safety, reduce conflict, preserve traditional boat uses and protect the environment. The agency has 38 staff and four primary program areas: Boating Safety, Policy and Environmental, Registration and Boating Facilities.
The revenue generated helps fund the agency and contracts with county sheriff's offices and the Oregon State Police for statewide marine patrol services. Funding also provides boating facility grants and engineering services to eligible applicants to develop and maintain boat ramps, parking, restrooms and temporary moorage facilities. Additionally, funding supports environmental and educational programs to promote environmental stewardship and boating safety.
