The Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) helps Oregonians make informed energy decisions and maintain a resilient and affordable energy system. It advances solutions to shape an equitable clean energy transition, protect the environment and public health, and responsibly balance energy needs and impacts for current and future generations. ODOE serves as a central repository for energy data, information, analysis and as a venue for problem-solving Oregon’s energy challenges. The agency also provides energy education and technical assistance, regulation and oversight and energy programs and activities. The agency provides policy expertise to prepare for Oregon’s future energy needs and offers technical and financial resources to encourage adoption of and investment in energy efficiency and renewable energy resources. 

The agency also staffs the Energy Facility Siting Council, which has jurisdiction over large energy-generating and transmission facilities within the state. This effort brings together project developers, local and regional governments, citizens and others to make sure proposed projects are approved, built, operated and decommissioned consistent with all applicable laws and regulations. ODOE also provides a suite of energy incentive programs that offer grants or rebates for renewable energy, resilience and energy efficiency. The department has about 90 employees.​
