Present Duties

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management (OEM) maintains a statewide emergency response system for emergency and disaster notifications and coordination. OEM provides statewide leadership to prepare for, respond to, recover from and mitigate against emergencies and disasters regardless of cause. OEM provides leadership through its three divisions: The Director’s Office, Preparedness and Response and Mitigation and Recovery Services.

OEM supports state agency, local and tribal governments’ efforts to reduce disaster risk and manage the consequences of emergencies and disasters through grant funding to local and tribal governments, a network of regional emergency management coordinators, the state’s search and rescue program and the state’s 9-1-1 Program. The Drought Council, Local Government Emergency Management Advisory Council and the Oregon Seismic Safety Advisory Commission (OSSPAC) are also under OEM’s purview.
