The commission serves as the policy development forum for state and local criminal justice systems. Twenty-seven staff provide data analysis, planning and grant administration expertise to public safety officials and work with stakeholders to improve Oregon’s criminal justice systems. The agency administers the statewide grant programs for specialty courts, illegal marijuana interdiction  and prosecution, restorative justice programs and justice reinvestment programs. It administers Oregon’s sentencing guidelines, serves as the State Administering Agency for the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program and other federal public safety grants and houses the Statistical Analysis Center. Nine commissioners direct the staff’s work.
